About Work Teams

Design and Work  Teams  (one of five themes – learn more here)

So you have your idea, your support and now it is time to get down to work to actually finalize your design. Do you need a team? Where do you find them? Where do you work online? How? That’s the center of this theme. For example, you might work in http://www.basecamp.com or use a variety of Google applications.  You might want to post other ideas in the comments of this post.

As you explore examples of work teams, look for both the technology AND the practice of working together. Be critical.

What online architecture, tools and processes support successful design teams? What differentiates these from other types of open innovation online groups and environments? I.e.

The future is in our hands

This is the eight weeks, this is the project last a week. We had too much, from the beginning of trouble to the present final sprint. But you need to ask What are your design principles for designing. I think they are divided into two aspects.

1 the market demand direction

Why say market, as a designer, design direction is different, such as popular on the market a product, but it is not the role of consumer acceptance, we are exclusively for its design a better, more convenient products. In our team in order to help NGO to reach their objectives, application of the strong function of online community, for they design products to help them. So online community work way became my main idea and method.

2 innovative design concept

This is a class in the beginning, the tutor will require us to find different online platform, to find their advantage, I think this is very correct. If we use Facebook, might not get we expected effect, so Basecamp appeared, combining the advantages of the two platform we finished the request, but this is not enough, Facecamp, this only belong to our team his new platform.

Each person every day in innovation, every day something new appears, but I believe that no matter how the world changes, the future is in our own hands.

Week 8 – Future (Im)Perfect!

Nowadays, our technology is changing super rapidly, especially online networks. If I had to design and foster online communities or network based on my experience in this course and my project, these would be my design principles:

1. Project-oriented.

Online networks that we currently have are mostly oriented for sharing information or personal stuffs with public, but how about the ‘professional’ side? Certainly, we have some platforms such as Basecamp, Asana which are project-oriented, but won’t it be nice to have both sides (personal and professional) in one platform? To develop this, I think that it would be great to combine best online communities’ features such as Basecamp’s ‘updated to-do list’, Facebook’s event creator, etc.

2. Separation personal-professional

Now, imagine that we have both sides: Personal and Professional. It’s so great! But how to avoid all the distractions? I guess the best idea is to have a separation between them. To develop this, I think that having a feature such as “Change mode to…(Professional/Personal)” would be a great idea. It will avoid users to see distractions from the other side. For example, once user is on Professional mode, the screen is set in such a way to avoid the notifications from the Personal side, so that they can easily concentrate on what they’re doing.

That’s all what I can think about design principles for my online community because, apart from that, I think that current online platforms possess already great features!

Have a great weekend, Bloggers!

Week 8: What if…?

During these 8 weeks in the “ Project community” I learned a lot about online communities, networks and platforms. Gained a lot of knowledge which is very important to have if you are going to design one, or even if you are not… Anyway it’s interesting.

I had a chance to explore and experience many different networks, platforms and  because of that I saw which of them are the best, most popular and have the biggest success. As from a users perspective I can see, what is good and what is missing, what can be improved for more comfortable using and the more platforms I experience the more useful knowledge I get.

So if I would design my own online community, network or platform my main criteria would be, that there would definitely be a possibility to join the groups, because I think it’s important to have, for example, a private group if a user wants. To have a group for his own purpose and just add people he wants to add, or share minds about the certain things. The other thing which is no less important is that users could upload and share their files ( Photos, videos, music, documents etc..) with others and comment under each of file. Every information should be divided in categories, so users could find everything easily, just by typing the keyword in the search field. Platform or network has to be easy and simple to use, so everyone could understand it.

Again, as a user of some different platforms and networks I see some really good ones, for example Facebook (again), how I can stop talking about it and comparing with others if I use it every day, every hour and I’m not the only one. There are millions users, so that means, that this one is really good and somehow had involved so many people and still doing it.  For example our client in my personal branding group said, that about two weeks ago she HAD to join Facebook even if she really was against it ( I don’t know the reasons), but she also admitted, that she couldn’t fight against it anymore. Here you go, just a simple example. That means, that  if I would create something mine, platform for example, I would take an example from this one, but I would try to make it even more wide and more adapted for work.

Online communities: chance to rethink it over and over again implementing it and then putting it to practice.

If I had an idea, I would have probably joined online communities. The type of online communities I would join would depend on the context of design challenge itself. These can include your purpose and goals, so whether you want to reach out to the world. However, also includes your lacks, problems and orientations, in which the specific online community could help you. Some online communities for example concentrate on how to market and finance, while the others are concentrating how to find enthusiastic people. So it really depends on either your lacks, or your purpose.

The reason why I would want to join an online community is because it makes work easier and faster. Even though group work has its disadvantages, I think it definitely expands your learning through collaboration. The process whilst ‘getting there’ is the biggest learning experiences such online communities provide.  Besides that working in/with such online groups will stimulate action, process, and your motivation.

I would join work team, as they play a big role in gathering the people to collaborate online. This was my group, and I very much enjoyed researching different platforms and tools platforms offered, to guide our client. By working together with an online community, your design challenge gets much more realistic and specific making the project easier for you.

In all, I would have worked with an online community as you get to experience yourself how processes are done through online. In a world where technology is improving rapidly, you perhaps need to work with an online community or know about them.

“Making ideas happen isn’t easy and requires patience, determination and hard work. The most important part of it is not just coming up with a promising concept, but rather rethinking it over and over again, implementing it and then putting it to practice” Robert Hartland

Smart Challenge

Today almost everybody has access internet, everywhere, everytime. Internet at home, internet on the smartphone, there are even planes which have a hotspot. Therefore it is helpful to have your project management on the internet if you are working in an collaboration but for individual work as well. You and your team members can easily look up the status and what have to be done. A good platform we’ve done research on to facilitate this is basecamp.

It is impossible to work on a project only by using basecamp for communication but using it as a contact point to structure the tasks and providing an overview this platform is tremendously useful.

For tasks I mentioned above I would absolutely use an online platform. For meetings and working in groups I would prefer a face to face meeting but I would probably add video conferences with Skype or Google Hangouts for long-distance work.

I’m not only sure about the usage of platforms because I’ve done research but also because I’m already using basecamp for a project of mine. I upload the recent concepts and we can discuss them and agree on features and changes. But the greatest advantage is that because of the world wide web we can access it from wherever we are. Best circumstances for Open Innovators!

Face to challenge

If there are design challenges, I will not choose to consulting online community. I prefer to find a friend or teacher discussion.
Because I feel to go to online community post to consulting others problem is not accurate and satisfactory answer. General in the online community message, they are most of student or visitors, they can only providing personal opinions or ideas. But we went to ask teacher or go to the library to find relevant books, they can provide us is professional, accurate information. Because the book is millions of people to the crystallization of discussion and research. On the other hand, I don’t reject to online consulting the answer, after all, this is a the fastest, the most convenient way to get informations what you need. We can on share each other thoughts and then to do more innovation and exploration, it sounds will be very interesting. The best example is my group, I be proud of them, because we can quickly discuss a method to deal with difficulties. So I accept the challenge, because it;s  not only a problem but also motivate for us..

Finally, I want to say on this one more months of study, I face too right challenges and difficulties. As a designer of the road, I think it will face more challenges, but no matter so, I will make my choice

Retrospective or perspective?!

Per-Retro-spective

I would certainly join one of the online communities in the future.

During the project process and trying to handle the problems and the difficulties that came from the aims we’ve faced, we been forced to join one or other online platform and test it by ourselves.  Our team focuses on the online working platforms… and even thou we might not been involved into every single group researching online platforms for different purposes(funding , marketing etc), I hope that after all groups’ presentations we will gain certain knowledge and our point of  view about how to use online platforms and communities wisely will be widened and we will clearly know what steps to take , to whom ask for a help confronting and solving our possible future design challenges. Joining and participating in all the online communities might be too much , but depending on your aims joining a certain community (for example your design project is been stuck because you cant find potential investors or enough fund , so you search for a fund raising online community) might lead into successfully finished project.

So joining and participating in these kind of communities (or at least knowing how they work) is essential  for the 21st century open innovator.
