THIS ONE IS HUGE!

As mostly everyone knows – “FACEBOOK” is the most popular online community now.
I do not know how, but… There is around 1 billion people who use this network and it’s only since 2004! I am pretty amazed how it is possible to bring together so much people within so short time…

Few tips which would pull people to use new online community: (my opinion)

§  Something new and different from other networks.

§  No pop-up adverts. (I hate them!)

§  Easy to use.

§  Everyone is able to create own design.

§  Possibility to communicate in few different ways (chat, video).

§  Easy to share information.

§  Do not need to pay for anything.

§  Forums about different things.

§  And lot of more things which can attract people…

On my experience in this course I understood that online communities are very useful and, also, addicted. Before this course I didn’t use any so much. But now all information is here. You have to check “Facebook” few times per day if you want to know what would be tomorrow or even today if not you are like a white crow. But… when you check this for information your eye will catch some post which can look quite interesting, then other one and so on… like a drug – every time you will need more and more time to spend there.

What fosters people to use online communities?

When people do not know what to do the internet is the biggest attraction. Online communities catch every one of us with their adverts, “new” possibilities or “new” design, which you “must” try (because everyone will talk only about this for few days). Also, people need to communicate with each other, this is the main thing why “Facebook” has huge amount of users.

This course gave us an opportunity to choose the network we want to work with whole 10 weeks. I am glad because now I know how to use all information which online network can give. We had lots of time of researching two networks. I think we took everything what was be possible and useful from them.

definitely yes !

If you had a design challenge, would you join and participate in one of the types of online communities we’ve been researching? Why or why not?

If there is an opportunity, why don’t take it?

Am taking everything what life gives me:

“If life gives you lemons –slice those suckers and find some tequila!”

In my “language” this means – if you have problems or challenges, accept or solve them in the best way, just do the best you can and take all “awards” you want. MAKE THE BEST FROM THE WORST.

I am never afraid of challenges. If you have an opportunity to do something, just do it, because if someone gave you this, he thinks that you are good enough to do.

So If I had a design challenge, I would love to join and participate in one of the types of online communities we’ve been researched!

Why?

I really don’t have an explanation. I just would be in it. Not because I like this online community but because of the challenge. I would be able to change the situation to the better side.

Furthermore, this project could give you the best experience and recommendations for your later job. This is one of the most useful parts of taking an opportunity.

Also, with your participation, you can help people, you can share useful information, and you can create new spaces. Maybe you will find that this is the way of your life?

Now we are working on NGO’s, so this can have a huge impact why to be in it. They work on people needs: try to solve problems in poor countries, give everything to make sure that people will have better life conditions. Maybe you can help them by your work? And with your work can make someone’s life to be better? Or maybe it’s just my opinion because I am a volunteer. I have been participating in many projects and these have changed my view about taking all opportunities you have definitely.

All in all, I think that all people have to contribute as much as they can.

I would love to join; I would love to see how everything works. No matter if it would be the best experience, or maybe the biggest nightmare.

6 THINGS

To be honest, that’s how it was at the beginning:
At the first lecture I was sitting and thinking “why I am here?? What I am doing here?? Ok, I will follow others and will do everything what they would do”.
At the second one– “at least I am not the only one who doesn’t know anything what we are doing here”.

At the third lesson I started to understand what we are doing, at last! I was quite sure about everything and when I tried to know other persons in my class. I am really bad with names but know I have learned a lot.

6 things:

1.       Listening to other opinions. I think, that this is the main thing what did I learn. Not at university, I was always very busy to listen to others opinions; one or two opinions were enough to solve problems. And now, when we are working in teams, we have to listen to others, it’s not hard but it is very helpful to know what do everyone thinks.

2.       Team work. It was the biggest “?” for me. I had an idea what it is, I had been working in a team, but this is not this kind of team. Your mark depends on team members, you have to do everything perfectly to make your team happy, and you have to solve all problems with everyone, not alone. I these quite fast, it’s a very good beginning for later job.

3.       Take notes of the most important things. All the time I was thinking: “I will attend all lessons, I will listen and I will read books, I don’t need to take any notes, I will remember everything”. noooo, its complicated now. I am not at all lessons, I would love to be at all but it is quite impossible because of many reasons. I listen what teachers say, but I don’t read anything except projcomm page information. And now, I need to take notes, because no one will give all information “on the plate” for me. I understood that these notes are soo helpful, when you need to answer some question or even to write a blog, I can check my notebook and find some useful information.

4.       Now I know what NGO’s are. I always knew that there are some organizations, which help people in developed countries, who improve their lives and so on, but I know what do NGO’s really do, how they do it and mostly everything about them, I had never had any idea that they are doing so much.

5.       Other cultures. I have met many people from other countries, also, people from our class. They said how it is to live in their country, traditions, food and etc. I tried to explain something about my county, people, traditions, me and my family. I always loved to communicate with people from all around the World; I have many friends from other countries so it is not very hard to communicate with people who have many differences from me.

6.       Blog writing. I a l w a y s hated this thing. But know, then blogs are obligatory, I need to do this. It found and good sides of this, now it is not a penalty to write it, I quite enjoy it.

There are more things I have learned but these are the main. I hope in coming weeks I will learn something more.

sooooo… facilitation !

To begin with, I would like to explain in easy way what facilitation and facilitator is. This describes the best:
“Facilitation is the art of leadership in group communication. A facilitator is one who fulfills this leadership role.”
Deeper (as I understand this): “facilitation is like making art with others, also, being a communicable leader. Facilitator is the one, who does everything to make others tasks easier.”

University is still like a new, unexplored planet for me. Teachers and classmates help me to “survive” on these trebling floors. I am learning from them, I hope they are learning something from me also. We are communicating very much. The main platform is “Facebook”, because it is the easiest way to do this, we have our groups, we can upload all files, show results, chat and do mostly everything. now we just started to use “Google+ hangout” to make conversations between us. I don’t really like this way, I would prefer to use “Skype”, I think, that it would be easier to communicate.

Wednesday’s “hangouts” are reaaaaally helpful to understand everything. I think its not only for me, but also for others. Without this it would be harder to find solutions and to write a blog every week. Lectures are very important, too. Before my studies here I thought that The university has to be the place where teachers wont show initiative to help you, you have to find everything by yourself and so on. But.. I found this course in other, better way. Teachers want to be like friends, communicate, they help us, they give us information sources, say what do we need and try to plug the information to our brains. I like this much.

To be a good facilitator you need to have many skills, but, in my point of view, it is “enough” to be COMMUNICABLE, FLEXIBLE AND BALANCED OBSERVANT WITH RICH IMAGINATION AND PATIENCE, WHO HAS A LOT OF CONNECTIONS, IS NOT AFRAID OF AFFIRMANCE AND CHALLENGES AND, ALSO, CAN KEEP SILENCE.. J

Facilitation is like art, as I wrote, we are designers - we can understand the art. We all are facilitators. Maybe not at the university, but anywhere else.

p.s. I really like what ive found about online and offline facilitation: http://www.mindmeister.com/767714/online-and-offline-facilitation-different-and-alike
I think this describes mostly everything about facilitation.

A ?

Nowadays no one can imagine life without technology. It is everywhere. At home, work, school, university, shops and even in the yard. Before this growing technology century, people were smarter and not as lazy as now. They didn’t know anything about internet, mobile phones or washing machines. They did use candles to light up the house, books to search for information, letters to communicate and fireplaces to heat their food.

But what is going on now? People are very different. My grandparents always remind me of those ages, they say that it was easier to live then. But whyyy? They don’t need dishwasher or computer? They don’t want to grow with technology? Yeah, they know how to do everything without “smart” phones, not like us. We can’t live without internet, we need to have the newest technology, we don’t like to go to libraries to take some book – everything is on the internet. Why do we need to buy a book, if we can download it? Why we do need to wash our dishes by hands, if we can put them in a dishwasher? Why we need to follow these technologies?

The main answer to all those questions is that we are technology kids. We grew up with it; we can’t imagine our lives without it. We need to call our friends on phone, because we don’t like to write a letter – it is faster way to communicate. Everyone have a computer, we can use it for everything, for playing, searching for information, writing these blogs. But how it would be if we would have one day to be without any technology, like people, who lived before Christ?

I can imagine my day without it, it would be like: wake up in the morning, light up a candle, going to the river to wash myself. After, going home to put some clothes (I imagine some fur or leather piece which is like a dress), shoes, which look like leather bags and going to university. Going on feet – they didn’t have any tram then (ha ha). University would be like a big room with candles everywhere and few desks with chairs. Many students who are listening to teacher, writing everything on paper and reading books. Yeah, it would be impossible without a computer, because at our lectures we need to have computer to search for information, to take notes and to do our homeworks.. so my “day without technology” ends, because I can not imagine the evening without technology..

But in reality, if there would be no new technology for one day, even for one hour, it would be the third world war, I think, because people are addictive to it. Mostly everyone knows what is “apple” and “Microsoft”, “Samsung” and “nikon”, we are following the technology way, we are like those marionettes, which are addictive to their strings, we are addictive to technology.

I think, that we need technology, we need to be followers, but, also, we need to know how it was without it and how to use it responsibly.

WE HAVE A NAME !

I just started to like blogging (maybe it’s because of my mood, don’t know)!

What about our group and our work. We main thing – we just got a name, its designated to GUILIANA ORIZZONTE and the name is THE HORRIZONTAL COMMUNITY - Looking beyond the horizon. I like this name; I think everyone from our group likes it. And the name doesn’t mean anything baaaaaad J

My group works very well! At first, I thought that we would do less of group work, but now I’m happy that we have to do mostly everything with it because we can help each other and we can do just everything. All members have big imagination, can help and explain. Also, we have our roles, we do everything and more what is required, we are trying to do everything together because it is better than doing everything alone, we can contact to each other and so on.

This is the third week of studies but I think that’s only the first one, time goes sooo fast! I don’t know what to expect in coming weeks but I hope it will be fun, as it was! These weeks were really good (I thought that at university has to be only theory and veeery much not really interesting things to do) I like what do I have to do, that I can have some free time to spend with my friends and to explore the Netherlands. These studies had changed my opinion about school, everyone says that you would miss your school very much, you won’t like the university and etc., but now I really love this university (I really do not know why, but..) and I miss my school but not as much as everyone said.

I think that this part of studies is the easiest one because now we are exploring, trying to know about what we have to learn, teachers are still very good for us (I hope they would be like that forever J), we do not have so much of homework. But.. I don’t know what to expect later. Maybe studies would change and it would be like an awful daily routine? Hope – not.

About group sizes, I like working in my group, it is enough to be in a group with five more person. This group is not so big, and not so small. Small groups makes us to have a very big responsibility.. and bigger groups can make us to be invisible, because there are some people who are like that, they want to say their opinion but when others are shouting out loud and trying to say their (the most important one) opinion – it’s not as good as it is in small groups. All in all, I think that the best group size is of 4-6 people. Maybe it’s only my opinion…

In the end, I like to say that I am really happy that we are in groups, we can teach each other new things, and we can communicate and do more than alone. Hope that in whole course would be as fun, as it was in those three weeks.

“BUILDERS”

Internet – the thing which is a very good friend for every one of us. It gives us opportunities to be invited to the future building.  We are building future all the time on the internet. If we are searching some information on “GOOGLE”, posting our minds on “TUMBLR”, twitting about everything on “TWITTER”, chatting with friends, posting and playing “farms” on “FACEBOOK” – this means, that we use other people (creator’s) network and we have to pay for it. These money builds our future. People can create something new and new to take our minds, to make us addicted to their networks. Like nowadays there are millions of people who are addicted to “FACEBOOK”. They need it every day, they have addiction to post everything that they have done, what they are doing now or what they would do in the future. Also, people are getting lazy (if they are really interested in being online on some network all the time. (I don’t anything about job)). They can forget how to communicate in reality, be like robots without emotions.

The good point of those public communicating networks is that you can chat with people who are very far from you, you can watch how they feel and how they look now (if they post everything), even you won’t forget about  their birthdays because “FACEBOOK” will remind you about it. (I think that this is the best thing on “FACEBOOK”)

What about my networks. I have few “GMAIL” accounts, but I use only one of them to get important information from everyone. (I have made more accounts because I always forgot my password…) Also, I have “TUMBLR”, but I use it only for University, because I don’t understand blogging point and I don’t really like to post my minds on networks like this, but I must have this one for University and I am quite happy because maybe I will change my opinion about blogging one day. What is more, of course I have “FACEBOOK”. I use it a lot, because I need to communicate with my friends, who live far from me, with my classmates and to know the upcoming events, birthdays. From “FACEBOOK” I can get information about almost everything. That is one of points why I really like it. But I would like to use it less, because it takes very long time… All in all, I think that the best space for communicating is “SKYPE”. I like this a lot. You can chat, talk with people, see them by webcam and do more things. I use it very much; because you can call your family and others for free, see them and so on.

To finish with, I would love to have one big network (bigger than “FACEBOOK”, “SKYPE” and others), where you would be able to do everything in one place. Like to have blog, chat, talk, see, play, post and know everything about events birthdays and etc. I think this kind of network is coming of it already exists…

real or digital

http://thesocietypages.org/cyborgology/2012/08/14/a-brief-reflection-on-digital-dualism-for-social-researchers/dd-3/

I think that the biggest problem nowadays in the World is that second - digital World.
People do not need to live their “real” lives because they can use internet “where the magic happens”.
There are a lot of people who are sitting whole day and night opposite their best friend - computer and trying to create their “new” World, which would be better than real one - you can create your house, family, friends, you can live without problems, you do not need to have any job. It is because you became the creator, the creator of your World.
Also, we can not judge all those people for who living in the real World is too hard - mostly all of us use “facebook”, “tumblr” or other pages where people can communicate without seeing each other. You can not see emotions, of corse there are lot of programs like “skype”, where you can talk and see a person, who is veeeeery far from you but it is not the same as in reality.
Futhermore, all of us would like to live in the perfect World, where you would be a millionaire, digital “things” can help us. If you do not have any money for travels - you can watch pictures on the internet, if you want to go to cinema, but you do not have enough money - you can download it (illegally..) and watch.
In my opinion, I do not really know the answer to that kind of question, it is quite impossible to have one opinion. Because on the one hand - digital world is only for those, who are too lazy to live normally, but on the other hand, it is impossible to live without it for all of us ..

Also, I hope that PROJECT COMMUNITY lectures would help me to understand how can internet help us, not only about communicating, searching for information or advertising, but more.

p.s. it is quite easy to live without internet (have this only at university), i do not have any at my home .. :)
