One of the most famous online communities is Facebook. Why is that ? Well if I must say is probably for the good overall layout and the easiness of working on facebook. Also big advantage is you don’t need someone to be online to send him a message or something. On facebook you can do it very easy - just send it and when the user comes online he can check it. Most of the time facebook is nice and people are getting used to it but whenever they decide to update it - they f*ck up.
People are so used to the layout that they want it unchanged. For example - many people like the old facebook design before the timeline thing. Many voted for 2011 design, inluding me. It’s brutaly simple and easy to use - like AK-47. My advice to the guy is simply leave facebook as it is.
Personaly I don’t like facebook. I prefer Skype but skype has its problems. But nowadays Facebook became important part of our life and we simply need it especially for school. Which is another reason why I don’t like it. I prefer old-school stuff. But back to the question - If I have to advice them what to do :
1.User-friendly interface - not very complicated but still it should be modern enough
2.It should be free - no taxes on anything or whatsoever
3.POP-UPSSSSSS…… kill them
4.Original ideas not just copy paste - there days it’s difficult to do it but I believe there is a way
5.It should definately have a Forum - just for random stuff or some issues of the webiste
My personal advice is that people should go out from their buble and explore other online communities - like Reddit. It’s very good and simple to use. And please more creativity..Also I would create a voting system on what people like and dislike (facebook). And I would change it and make it better !
Well so far I would say that if I had design challenge I would definitely choose IndieGoGo to work with. It’s great for stage one project if you want to get good start with it. Basically you need good presentation on your project so that the people can like your campaing and give you money. And if you do that then the amount of money you will get is a LOT. But IndieGoGo only work for the initial stage of your project. So if you need more money you simply have to choose something else. So for my future projects I will definitely use IndieGoGo :)
So far everything is working out perfectly for us ! We are focused on our work and we do what we have to do. I believe we are one of the groups which is quite ahead from the others but somehow we don’t actually feel it that way. The reason is that simply everybody adds something little everytime to the general “big” idea. But if you look at it it’s surely that we are quite ahead.
Our first individual work was quite tricky. Everybody was given a task to research something and everybody did their work splendid. I was given a task to see is Indiegogo a user-friendly site and what’s this site about in general. Also everytime every single member of the team “shoot out” and idea and we immediately put it to use. Since our individual work we were simply discussing ideas and this week each of us was given something to do. So me, Bonne and Sylvie have to discuss and form the theory for the NGO.
So far I’ve been drastically improving my skills - both in English and teamworking. Same goes for drawing but there it’s much left to be desired but we will get there ! I just want to pass the class. Nothing more and nothing less !
At first when we started working in groups I was shocked… But after a week or two I realised that this is quite the opportunity. At first it seems strange working in multicultural environment but after some time you start using this as your advantage - both for you and the group. Right now we are in week 5 and so far so good. We have our disagreements but it all comes down to where everybody comes from. Sometimes I want to hit somebody but this is more like Personal Branding. But I’ve learned that teamwork is important and they are helping me to adjust to the Western world. Of course lets not forget the teachers. They are always helpful and ready to speak with you if you have some kind of problem. Also the teachers are also multicultural which is qute nice. In that way we can improve our work because every teacher will say something about their coutry and we can put this in use in our projects - making them better. We facilitate the work process by collaborating with our community. And then we put the knowledge into doing out projects better every single time. It’s quite useful and I am keen to improve it a bit futher.
I would certainly like to improve my English - Coming from Bulgaria means having typical Eastern accent and most western people are not used to it. Also it’s normal for bulgarians to talk fast - of course I talk fast and sometimes this is quite the problem. Thats why sometimes I remain silent because many people won’t understand me. But after coming to the university and with the help of my friends from the course (not from my group) I learned to speak little bit slower and I think I fixed a little bit my accent so I am greatful to them. As for the study teachers should lay their steam off…. I mean seriously!! Couple of days ago I made a joke and nobody understand it and they simply called it stupid O_O. In my country is typical to have jokes with the teachers to lay off the steam and they do it too. So it’s not something which is bad. Sometimes I just don’t understand the western world. It’s so strange to me. If you look at the laws in the Netherlands and the teachers (well some of them, not all) it’s like we are back in the Soviet Union….I am not kidding and I am 100 % serious !
Reading my friends blogs it’s quite useful because sometimes you can “steal” ideas and modify them to fit you. After all we should help each other because some of us will be 3 years together :). Aside for that everything seems ok for now and to tell the truth I am very home sick…. It’s my very first time being abroad and I miss my country every day. Usually the pain becames smaller with time passing but mine is only growing… I try not to think alot but right now it’s almost impossible :D. At least I try to make stupid jokes from time to time to cheer myself and my friends. I think I will adjust rather quickly to the western world as soon as I find some good friends :)
How much does your personal preference drive your tool choices?
A lot. After all if you don’t have personal preferences then you are no good then the guy in front of you. This is what defines you as tech steward. You need to have quite a lot personal ideas and express them. When needed you can take some ideas.
What if everyone else in your group had different preferences?
It’s normal for everyone to have different preferences because there are no two identical things in the universe. The problem arises with everybody speaking his mind and wanting to choose his idea. This will only happen in a team which is formed like a month ago. If the people in the team know each other for a long time or they have been working with the same team for a long time, everybody is going to listen to you and probably enhance your idea so that the others will see the full potential of it. Also you are more open to ideas from the others.
How would you proceed as you steward the technology?
I am going to try my best so that people could understand me and see my point. If the people are not interested I’m not going to bother changing their mind.
Does looking at others’ preferences and perspectives change your view as a tech steward? Challenge you?
Of course it changes my preferences and perspectives. After listening to everyone in the team you simply start having some thoughts and if they are strong they are going to influence you and will change your view as tech steward. For challenging is a bit different. On some occasions they might make your life hard but I would not call it challenging.
Well so far we had our arguments but this comes with being rushed into groups before knowing each other. But still so far it is working quite fine and I am looking forward to work again. The biggest challenge for me is people understanding me – comes with being from Eastern Europe, which means accent and speeding speech. Also the enormous cultural difference between West and East. Nevertheless I am trying my best to speak slowly so that people can keep up with me and understand me. The only thing what I want is using more fun and modern technology not like keeping it simple and boring ( very boring……). Like the presentation which were like 2 minutes long…. I call that Epic fail. For experience .. well simply communicating more with the group and other people as well.
Indiegogo is quite user friendly website and everything is easy reached and the most important information is in front of you. The website theme is quite good and the colors choice is user friendly so it’s not confusing. The client has got several tools for use – He can either browse campaigns or if you are interested in how it works you can check it out. The next thing is simply creating a campaign. You can also view other campaigns on the first page and donate money and you can check the progress of the campaigns and how much funds are gathered. There is also browse choice which can get you loads of information and you just pick something and read. Some of the options for example are quick picks where you choose the time left for a campaign or what is new this week. You can also pick locations and see where are the headquarters of Indiegogo. You can check the partner list if you are interested in someone whether to meet him in person or ask him something. You can also become a Partner for this website. The sign up button is located bellow the partner list which is logical solution. Idiegogo is really well organized and user friendly website.
First of all I would like to say that I am this kind of person which likes to interact with other people online. I am a member of many defined groups like Audi Club Bulgaria, Battlefield Community etc.I am always happy to help and in certain communities I am considered to be quite expirienced - more or less like a veteran. People ask me about problems which they encountered and if I am able to help I do it. Sometimes however I don’t have the necessary expirience so I just give some basic answer to the people.
One of the most comvortable things for me is the website layout. Nothing can be compared with the good website layout. Everything is easy to reach. Sometimes when people see the website layout they immediately give up because it’s to difficult to work with. The second thing is the community itselft - whether it it’s friendly and helpful or just making fun of someone and offending him because he doesn’t know - this is what matters, otherwise why did you join in the first place.
The third and final thing for me is the reputation of the community group - it’s very important for me and I think for almost everybody else. Based on that you either join or pass along.
One year ago I didn’t even have a Facebook profile. People we always asking me “why don’t you have Facebook?” and “how do you talk with people?” Those are one of the STUPEDEST things which I’ve heard in my life. I can talk with my mouth to the people so thats not a problem. One day I decided to make facebook profile and too see why everybody is so crazy about it. At first I wasn’t impressed - nothing to look for really… After some time it gets boring and I ended up asking myself - why do people use it ? I was hoping to learn something more from Facebook but instead there were only stupid publications. Now though there are some good things about it. Lately there have been some movement in Facebook and started uploading news and other important stuff. This is the initial reason which I signed up. One month ago I joined the facebook group - AUDI club Bulgaria and the online community is soo good. Everybody is helping you there are even once a year a meeting near the runway in Plovdiv,Bulgaria. Nobody cares about what car are you driving - either 80’s Audi 80 or 100 or 2012 Audi A8. We are all even. So this is the kind of community I look for - helping me and me helping them not for money or something else. So those are my general expectations form online comunities.
